Today Joiyin is moving from alpha to open beta. Thanks to everyone who tested in alpha — we’re opening the web app to more people.

What We’ve Built

Since the limited alpha in October, we shipped the systems below. Numbers are real; marketing speak kept to a minimum.

Architecture rebuild

We moved to an event-driven architecture — less spaghetti, faster screens. You should feel that as fewer weird edge cases, not as a buzzword.

Trust tiers

Four tiers control how far you can create activities (not how far you can browse — everyone sees a ~3km discovery radius on the map):

  • Newcomer (5km create radius)
  • Active Member (10km)
  • Community Contributor (20km)
  • Community Veteran (50km)

Hosts who no-show can face community accountability votes. Accountability through showing up, not surveillance.

Joiys (in-app currency)

Joiys ⚜ power boosts, Share Love tips, and organizer donations. Optional paid top-ups are coming; earning through participation already works.

Eight languages

English, Spanish, French, Dutch, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Swedish, and Ukrainian — 1,596 translated strings across features.

Privacy layers

  • 500m fuzzy circles on the map until you join
  • Hybrid coordinate encryption in transit
  • Exact location for joined participants, timed before start

We don’t sell your data. Location privacy is structural, not a settings toggle you have to hunt for.

Notifications

Push when you’re away, in-app bell when you’re active — seven categories with priorities so you’re not pinged for everything at once.

Infrastructure

Admin portal, edge functions, DB tuning for scale, 80%+ test coverage on the Flutter codebase. The boring stuff that keeps beta from falling over.

Polish

Hero transitions, responsive web layout, auth UI cleanup, beta badges — hundreds of small fixes.

By the Numbers

Since alpha started:

  • 1,596 localized strings across 8 languages
  • 89% reduction in code complexity
  • 80%+ test coverage maintained
  • 500+ database functions with security policies
  • 20+ comprehensive documentation files
  • Hundreds of bugs fixed, features refined, and experiences improved

What’s Next

Open beta means we’re ready for more real usage. We’ll keep shipping from feedback — expect steady updates, not vaporware roadmaps.

Thank you

Alpha testers: you filed bugs when things were rough. That shaped this release.

Everyone joining now: try the web app. Post something you’d actually do, or browse what’s nearby.
